The universal right to health care

I was happy to help.

The voluntary organization Doctors of the World makes with Operation Smile medical treatments available for children and young adults abroad. Due to the lack of access to medical / surgical care, they often live completely outside the society.

During the missions of Operation Smile, a team of plastic surgeons, anesthetists and (or) nurses work voluntary in a developing country. They mainly operate on children and young adults with a cleft (cleft lip) or scars after burns. The patients receive free reconstructive surgery. Treatments that are normally inaccessible to them.

To give the missions a sustainable character the surgical team also provides training to the local medical staff. We share knowledge and learn them specific skills, so that they can perform the operations themselves in the future.
